Spring @ Gramercy Park.
Β This month is my first time participating in the Full Time Fabulous Community blog event and I’m so excited the theme is Spring.
I really love Kristy Elena’s take on this topic “Spring is a transitional season…stepping outside your comfort zone, challenging yourself are all themes that are playing a big role in the current fashion season.” Woooorrrd up.
I had a long list of Spring things I wanted in my life this season and because I really do want to be a better shopper and a more conscious shopper I chose to look for my wants at my local thrift shops.
These items are ALL thrifted: green faux leather jacket- Buffalo Exchange; black leather jacket with tan trim-Brooklyn Flea (I totally lost the vendor card, bummer); pink pencil skirt ($4.oo!!!!) and orange maxi skirt ($5.00!!!)-Cure Thrift, this store is a gem(!), all sales benefit the Diabetes Research Institute.
Aside: My wonderful boyfriend took me thrifting on my b’day, because he is rad :)- he gifted me the skirts from Cure Thrift. Thank you, honey.
Since my birthday was last week I was lucky to be gifted a few other things on my “Most Wanted” list for Spring.
Gift Card for Target from a friendly colleague provided me with the bathing suit tops and sandals; my aunt bought me the shorts from h&m, my mamacita bought the Prada tortoise sunglasses from Century 21 and mamacita’s bff bought me the lovely jewelry.
Mamacita and Auntie got me this bright orange jacket from Century 21 too, L-O-V-E.
So after being so lucky at thrifting and even luckier to have wonderful people who gift me pretty things, I think there is no better time for me to challenge myself to my first shopping ban.
Friends, I am really anxious that I might fail. I live in Manhattan and I walk everywhere. Just going to work I have to walk through the East and West Village AND Soho. I mean beautiful retail is literally at every corner…actually more like every inch of every block. So I know it will be a challenge.
But again, I want to be better and I KNOW that I have everything I need and I need to take a moment to be thankful for everything I have. So the Spring shopping ban is on!!!
I might need to get a set of blinders until June 15th, arbitrary end date :).
I love this group of bloggers so be sure to check all the participants of FTF here.
Jamillah dear, I love thrifting! That orange jacket colour is beautiful! If you set it, then have the faith that you can do it, I know you can! (may not be easy, but) wishing the very best with your challenge. Have a wonderful weekend! -xo

When your shopping ban is over, and I come back to New York, will you take me to Brooklyn Flea? I love flea markets, but I’m the worst thrifter ever when it comes to clothes. Teach me your ways!
You got some lovely gifts. Seems like your loved ones know you very, very well! Enjoy them, sweetie.
That pic of the park is so pretty! I love your red maxi skirt. Great thrifting finds!

Loving everything about this post! I have honestly never been to a thrift store, something I’m madly ashamed to admit. I’ve been to a few vintage shops but they didn’t have the best stock. I’m told we have some of the best thrift shops here in Omaha so I need to get out there and find some of them!
And wishing you so much luck on that shopping ban; I’ve never done one myself but I can only imagine how difficult it would be in Manhattan of all places! I miss Century 21, so so much.
i love the shoes you got for your birthday, so cute! good luck on your shopping ban! i wish i could commit to something like that myself but i just don’t think i have it in me!

Such beautiful picks! I’m diggin’ the chambray shirt and red maxi pairing!
I never tried to put a shopping ban intentionally! I know I’ll fail!!!
what I do though is to avoid going to shopping areas even for a walk!!!! (I go to the gym instead…the gym has saved me from unessesary shopping!!!)
It’s nice resolution for spring though!!! Good luck!

Happy belated birthday to you!
Wonderful finds you got yourself- I love that pink pencil skirt and the orange parka. So bright and fun! And speaking of bright, I know you can outsmart your impulses and curb your shopping until your ban ends. What a great way to exercise some willpower muscle, and what a great treat for yourself at the end of the ban- a little guilt-free shopping! -Bella Q
