I honestly can not believe it’s been 10 years. It’s an impossible feat to try to remember what 9/11 and the days after felt like and I don’t want to try to relive it. I haven’t watched the news all week because it’s been flooded with imagery from this horrific day and stories that are too crushing to hear.
The above image is of the 9/11 Memorial Fountain designed by Michael Aradand landscape architect Peter Walker titled Remembering Absence, it will be the center piece of the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum. The fountains are in the footprints of the two towers and I think it really is a breathtaking, stunning and respectful memorial.
Steve Sandberg from 1010 WINS says, “the pools create a sound envelope that allows for calm, peaceful reflection as you gaze upon the names of the victims.” (source)
The names of the victims of 9/11 are engraved into the fountain. The loved ones that are left behind chose the location for each name, a small way to tell their stories. If you’d like to look up a name you can do so here.
The New York Times headline is “10 Years After: A Day That Stands Alone” and I can not think of a more apt way to capture the feeling I have of this day. Many are still surviving and healing from 9/11 and I think as a country we are still healing and growing from the horrific events that took place. But today I think can serve as a reminder to be grateful for every single person in our lives and I’m personally humbled by the enormity of how precious and tenuous life is; it has me pensive on the thought any day everything can change.

Beautifully written friend!! This day is definitely a reminder to love on our friends, family, and loved ones.
I can’t believe its been 10 years either! I still remember exactly what I was doing when it happened. I can only imagine what it was like for you being in New York. Beautiful post 🙂
I’ve been reading all today about this, and I remember it as if it just happened yesterday… I was actually on my way to class at university when the news broke out, so sad of what happened to even some of my friend’s family members. Heartfelt post Jamillah.
It’s hard to believe it has been so long ago. I remember I wanted to be a Mommy after that day and 10 months later, we had Cherysh- the love of my life:-) Tragedy makes you feel things you have never felt before.
Beautiful post, love~Meredith xoxo
