Hello friends, I’ve been a little out of touch so thought it would be good to bring you a wee bit closer to me by showing you a really important part of my home…specifically where I write to all you lovely readers-my office!
I recently rearranged my apartment to accommodate the new beautiful screen courtesy of the BF and I’m just so happy with it.
Ever piece of furniture minus the bookshelves is thrifted. I am suuuuper particular with what goes into my apartment and while I do like modern design for my home I gravitate to things that have lots of charm and color.
I have been dying to reuse this t-ruler. It’s from Thailand and has etchings from my dad’s school days on the back of it. I took some twine tied different lengths to the t-ruler and nailed it onto the wall. Then I used clothespins to clip things that make me happy onto the strings.
That copy of The Daily is from the very first fashion week I ever attended back in September of 2007 :). Here are some other fun things!
L-R: postcard from Sara (lovely friend, you made my day for real!); card crafted by my mamacita; postcard of one of my fave paintings by koloman moser; ticket stub from Please Give-a FANTASTIC film.
And here are just some odds and ends from my desk.
L-R: The large yellow rose I made for a Halloween costume, the cutie pie giraffe is not just good for a smile it is actually a screen cleaner by aroma home (works like gangbusters!) you can buy one HERE, and the top is from a Christmas mart in Vienna…I tend to spin it when I’m reviewing posts.
L-R: That globe lamp is a touch lamp!!! If that’s not fun, I don’t know what is :)-a discard from my aunt’s house. Of course Audrey is here, she’s actually in every room in my home this print is from a fundraiser for the AIDS Center of Queens County, and the last bit is a little momento from my trip to New Mexico with my family, it’s called The Storyteller.
So there you have it friends, my little office space. I must say it reflects me pretty closely. I’m incredibly sentimental and I love color and for me it really matters that my home looks and feels just like me.
So how about you friends? Does your home say something about who you are?
I like the yellow shelf-desk. It’s cheery! Just like you.
My room says jack about me at the moment except “disinclined towards cleaning” – it’s technically my parents’ spare room and I haven’t wanted to decorate too much because it’s like admitting I’m not juuuust about to move out on my own. :/
Gotten pretty sick of it, tbh. I’m looking in to posters.
Bahahahah, my old desk totally said that to me! Shelf-desk kind of makes me be a bit neater because it’s like all out in the open. I say even though it’s your parents’ place make it your own a bit. For me it makes a difference in my life.
How cute!! I love that pink chair and yellow desk!
After moving into my new house I finally have an office that I can decorate and make it all about me! That’s one room in the house that will just scream my personality! 🙂
I can’t believe you thrifted 99% of it, love it all!
Thanks for the tweet earlier (:

I love your space. It is exactly what I expected of you. It screams “Jamillah” to me! I think it is especially nice that you are using your dad’s ruler from school. That is super cool. Thrifted gives it character. I love thrifty items!
I love your space, it’s so colorful & fun! I really like how you used the T-square, it’s a really great idea.
Oh, what wonderful little details! I love the Mexican doll, the globe lamp and the huge rose, and that even the screen-cleaner is fun. 🙂
I’m surrounded by Marilyn by the way, Marilyn and more books than it’s healthy. 😀
This is beautiful, J! So, so much of your personality is woven in here. I love it, as I love YOU!
I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t comment specially on the Audrey pic, huh? I adore that one, I think I have it in one of my books (she’s holding her little Yorkie, Famous, right?). It really highlights her gentle demure nature. Precious!
I love seein gthe space people write from—- always makes things seem more intimate!
Oh friend I’m so glad you liked the post card! When I saw it I thought, “If Jamillah were on a vintage post card, this is what she would look like.” Seeing it hanging in your room just made my day!
