Yesterday we celebrated U.S independence, today as a belated celebration I wanted to share a couple of new found sites to me that promote small businesses that are proudly grown in the U.S.A.
Made Collection
Made Collection is the first flash sales site to be dedicated to premium American made products. I read about this new site on Ecouterre and immediately joined. I received the below email on fun features of Made Collection.
I’m pretty excited that you’re able to track your impact and the goods on Made Collection right now are so modern and charming! I can’t wait to see what pops up next Wednesday!
Main Street Revolution by Overstock.com
Overstock.com is a pretty giant retailer (see their stats here) that has taken a chance on ethical shopping initiatives (check out their fair trade shop WorldStock Fair Trade). Overstock’s newest initiative is Main Street Revolution; they have partnered with several small business owners across the U.S. to sell on their site, giving these small businesses some much needed exposure. Local entrepreneurs have seen their businesses sky-rocket thanks to Main Street Revolution so I highly recommend you checking them out.
And in case you need some reasons to shop locally I found this info graphic by Local First that illustrates what $100 spent locally looks like.
When you spend your money on local goods much of that money stays within your community and helping our economy and added bonus you know exactly where your item comes from and what it took to make it.
So next time you’re out shopping try checking tags to see if it was made in the U.S.A and be sure to check all the goodness on Made Collection and Main Street Revolution.
This is fantastic!! Can’t wait to check them both out. Thanks 🙂
Jane! You should totally email Main Street Revolution! There’s an email address there for independent business owners who are interested in participating. Your goods would be so great there! My bf’s fave gift that I’ve given him besides his kindle is that pillow I bought from you :).
I’ve heard about Main St Revolution and been meaning to check it out!
That’s a really interesting and useful infographic. I am curious as to what the numbers and effects look like for purchases on products made by artisan outside US from a US run business. With my handbags, each purchase = tax income for California, while it also really does help the artisans and enhances the economy of their local community in Java.
What are your thoughts J?

Oh, plus all the expenses of running a US business go to other small businesses here in US (tax, legal services, insurance, etc).
